Situated on Lake Como the villa is immersed in the vegetation which surrounds it and partly conceals it, blending almost seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. This element was valorised in the project by means of a study of the relationship between the interior and exterior of the building. The materials, the colours and the furnishings were designed and developed in a delicate balance between conservation and innovation, creating a hospitable and welcoming environment that combines past and present.
Access is at street level so the top floor was designated as the entrance, leading off to the two lower floors. The middle floor houses the bedrooms of the owners and guests, while the lowest floor is designed to be the living area and opens out onto the garden and the lake beneath in a harmonious sequence of spaces.
The property is completed by the dock with a terrace and garage.
The concept of the interiors is based on a neutral white/pale grey architectonic box, with contrasting details in black/anthracite grey. In such a way the materials chosen bring warmth, texture and colour to the space, blending seamlessly with one another and with the space they are found in.
The interior is laid out around a staircase which links the floor at lake level to the entrance floor, by means of a fluid passage between the various rooms. An internal lift has been installed to the side of the staircase.
The idea of the space is that of rooms flowing into one another in a rhythmical sequence. On the first floor landing the large glass wall leads to the private sitting room overlooking the lake. This provides access to the master bedroom. Following this principle the floor at lake level is made up of rooms which can be read as a unit or separated by the glass sliding doors. On this floor a great deal of importance has been placed on the theme of the relationship with nature and the surrounding landscape. Each window is treated as a painting, framing a different element of the landscape, which transforms and becomes more beautiful with the changing light at different times of the day. Pursuing this line of thought a loggia has been opened up allowing the garden to be enjoyed in winter and on rainy days too.
As for heating and cooling the energy efficiency of the pre-existing villa has been improved by means of internal cladding produced using nanotechnologies, roof insulation, and the installation of solar panels on the roof, complete with a storage system and the use of a hybrid heat pump generator. All of these systems have been implemented with the idea of counterbalancing nature’s loss, taking into account the morphological and typological features of the building.
